Balfour Beatty Communities, a Military Housing Privatization Initiative partner, recently announced engagement with fiber optic network providers to improve and expand access to high-speed internet for military families. The project will introduce broadband fiber optic capabilities to the company’s military housing portfolio, starting with 10,000 homes across six U.S. Army bases. The fiber-to-home deployment will help connect military families to critical services, from videoconferencing to telemedicine.

The bases in the initial rollout include communities at Fort Eisenhower (Georgia), Fort Bliss (Texas), Fort Jackson (South Carolina), Fort Stewart (Georgia), Fort Leonard Wood (Missouri), and Fort Carson (Colorado). Balfour Beatty Communities has plans to continue expansion across the entirety of its military housing portfolio.

“Delivering exceptional living experiences means continuously adapting to meet residents’ evolving needs. We are excited to bring a more reliable, robust, and secure internet network to our communities for the direct benefit of our residents,” said Theresa Steele, Vice President, Project Development at Balfour Beatty Communities.

A spokesperson for the Fort Jackson Army Housing Office said, “Army families would benefit greatly from a much-needed upgrade to fiber optic connectivity. Not only will this improve connectivity performance in every home, it also future-proofs our partner-managed homes, increasing the overall value. Our mission units rely on a dependable fiber network to serve every mission on Fort Jackson, our housing area is overdue for this needed update.”

Privatized housing providers like Balfour Beatty Communities understand the challenges of military life.
