Balfour Beatty Communities recently announced breaking ground on a multi-phased development project at Fort Hamilton. The project, facilitated by the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI), will include the construction of three new homes for senior leaders, replacing demolished unites that were more than 50 years old.

The new homes will overlook the New York Harbor and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, while featuring fiber cement siding that improves longevity of the homes. In addition, the homes will be built with architectural shingles, standing seam metal roofs, two-car garages, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and new flooring.

Construction on the senior-leader homes is expected to be completed in September 2024. The multi-phased development project will also include exterior renovations of 10 apartment buildings in the Doubleday Village neighborhood at Fort Hamilton and the development of a new community playground.

“The partnership between U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton and Balfour Beatty Communities stands as an example of what collaboration is all about and further demonstrates the commitment of the partnership to provide quality housing for our military families. Working transparently and effectively together, this team continues to set new standards for quality housing, outstanding service, and overall care for the U.S. Army’s most precious resource, its Soldiers, and their Families,” said Col. Brian Jacobs, US Army Garrison Fort Hamilton Commander.

This project is made possible through the partnership between Balfour Beatty Communities and the U.S. Army at Fort Hamilton. Through the MHPI, privatized housing providers partner with the service branches to strengthen the state of military family housing. To date, Balfour Beatty Communities has worked with the Department of Defense to deliver more than 14,000 new homes and an additional 15,000 renovations for service branch partners.
