At Fort Hamilton, Balfour Beatty Communities is kicking off a large-scale development project with the demolition of existing senior-leader homes in the Officers Row neighborhood. The old homes will be replaced with brand-new structures and will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including architectural shingles, two-car garages, granite countertops, and stainless-steel appliances. The new homes are expected to open between 2024 and 2025, with their construction beginning in September of 2023.

The U.S. Army reports:

To deliver on its promise of providing exceptional service and comfortable housing for service members and their families, Balfour Beatty Communities has begun the first part of a multiphase development project at United States Army Garrison Fort Hamilton, in conjunction for Fort Hamilton Homes, in Brooklyn, New York.

The new project, which kicked off in mid-August 2023, with the demolitions of two existing senior leader homes in the community’s Officers Row neighborhood.

The old homes will be replaced with three brand new structures overlooking the bay and the Verrazano Bridge.

In addition, the homes will feature standing seam metal roofs, engineered hardwood flooring, and brick exterior finishes that will improve their durability and appearance. As part of Balfour Beatty Communities’ commitment to meeting Department of Defense sustainability goals, materials from the phase-one demolition of the original homes will be recycled.

Since the start of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) in 1996, privatized housing providers have built or renovated more than 125,000 homes. The MHPI program allows private sector companies to lend their expertise and work in partnership with the service branches to improve the state of military family housing.
